As a young child, I always had a fascination with flowers. I spent endless hours weeding, dividing perennials for my mother and watching my grandfather tend his flower garden with meticulous attention to detail. I was intoxicated with the aromas, shapes and colors of flowers. My parents were less than enthusiastic when it came to creativity and the arts and I was encouraged to find a career more suitable for supporting myself.
After a successful career in publishing and when my second child entered kindergarten, I decided it was time to embrace my creative side and return to my natural talents. I created a small garden design business and in the first summer took on a dozen clients from a friend who needed help. I quickly realized that I would not have enough business during the winter months, so when I heard about a flower shop in town that was struggling to keep their doors open, I offered to buy it. Our floral and garden design businesses grew and flourished 15 more years until my husband and I had to sell it to move closer to his job.
I worked for several floral businesses after that to keep me active in the industry and I taught floral design, but my true love has always been working with brides and helping them create their vision through beautiful flowers. That's when I started Petal & Bud. I like to incorporate unique elements of nature in my design and my background in gardening gives me a style that uses a variety of uncommon flowers. I enjoy creating a lot of texture through flowers in my wedding designs. My love of flowers is part of who I am and the beauty I can provide to others and the world around me. I look forward to chatting about your wedding day or special event.
